Summary: Arian Navarro, a cancer survivor and advocate, shares her inspiring journey and the impact of her background on her experiences. Raised in a large, strict Pentecostal family, Arian faced challenges and trauma from a young age. She struggled with depression and anxiety, even attempting suicide at the age of 10. However, her mother's support and open-mindedness led her to seek psychiatric help and start her healing journey. Arian's background in English literature at UT Austin helped shape her identity and aspirations. She discovered the power of narratives and the ability to analyze different perspectives. Arian's cancer diagnosis came when she was 26, and she went into survival mode, focusing on her treatment and support system. She found strength in her faith and held onto the belief that she would come out stronger. However, when she relapsed, she felt shattered and questioned her faith. Despite the challenges, Arian's resilience and determination allowed her to navigate her cancer journey and find purpose in advocating for cancer survivors. Ariane Navarro shares her experience of battling cancer twice and the impact it had on her physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. She discusses the challenges of facing mortality and losing her faith, as well as the intense physical and emotional pain she endured during treatment. Ariane also opens up about her struggle with addiction to pain medication and the deep depression she experienced after her transplant. Through writing and advocacy, she found healing and a sense of purpose, using her story to raise awareness about young adult cancer survivorship and the importance of validating all emotions.
